Toasty!

Let’s be honest: if you’ve ever dreamt about having the Human Torch‘s powers and claim that doing this never once crossed your mind, I’m calling you a liar.

Better not tell her you're planning a flambé for dessert, Johnny...

Better not tell her you’re planning to flambé something for dinner, Johnny…

This hands-on cooking lesson comes to you from the pages of Fantastic Four #67 (October 1967) by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Joe Sinnott.

What’s really funny about this is that Crystal has elemental control powers herself.

Sometimes I enjoy comics when we see the heroes using their powers the way everyone would actually use those kinds of powers (Thanksgiving at the X-mansion is always a fun time).

Did they ever actually show Thanksgiving at the X-Mansion at some point? :O

This story is actually something I read as a kid in a black-and-white Marvel digest book and stuck with me because of how funny it was. Took quite a bit of digging to figure out exactly which issue of “The Fantastic Four” it appeared in, though.

Oh, yes, some issues did indeed show Thanksgiving. Of course, since this was scattered amongst a ton of titles and issues, and because the comic timeline rarely follows the real timelines, running into this glorious celebration for the casual reader was kind of random (that’s a long way of saying I can’t remember specific issue numbers).

Also, it was something that came up more in the ’80s. Such frivolity seemed to disappear in the ’90s.

Right when the X-Men became really dark and edgey, huh?

I remember a few Thanksgivings from DC off the top of my head. One involved the JLA and JSA sitting down to celebrate it together and the other involved Dr. Sivana carving a turkey with a chainsaw. o.O
