The Lunar Archivist’s Sketchbook – Part 14

2013/12/30

As my final blog entry for 2013, I thought I’d post something unique from my original artwork collection. And here it is.

grantmorrison-batman001
What’s so special about this drawing of Batman, you ask? The fact that it was done not by a comic book artist, but a comic book writer, and a pretty big name at that: none other than Grant Morrison.

As anyone who’s seen the sketchbook for the 2005 reimagining of the Seven Soldiers of Victory – which contains Morrison’s own concept art, character redesigns, and liner notes – knows, he’s actually a pretty talented artist. But when I originally received this sketch from him at San Diego Comic Con way back in 1998, this wasn’t something he openly advertised “because then everyone would want one”, as he jokingly put it.

And that’s all for this year, ladies and gentlemen. See you all in 2014! 🙂

From Bad To Worse – Part 3

2013/12/26

There are worse things than a vampire being on good terms with a nun from a local church.

Vampire with a nun fetish? Wasn't that the plot of an upcoming anime coming out next year?

Vampire with a nun fetish? Isn’t that the plot of an anime that’s due out next year?

This disturbing implied overlap of vampirism, hobbyism, and fetishism has been brought to you by Chibi Vampire Airmail (かりん Airmail/Karin Airmail) (January 7, 2009) by Yuna Kagesaki.

Beyond Mister Miracle

2013/12/22

Believe it or not, there’s someone in the DC Universe who’s an even better escape artist than Mister Miracle. And he makes a point of rubbing it right in Darkseid‘s face once a year.

The Lord Works In Mysterious Ways

2013/12/18

In My Mental Choices Are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy (俺の脳内選択肢が、学園ラブコメを全力で邪魔している Ore no Nōnai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Rabu Kome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru), the “Flippant God” who contacts protagonist Kanade Amakusa uses a rather unusual iPhone caller ID photo.

God called. We're screwed.

God called. We’re screwed.

While gods in this series seem more like caseworkers or tech support people than divine beings, they appear to have a sense of humor about their jobs (even if they aren’t very good at them) when you take into consideration where that image came from…

What's the next step up from blasphemy again?

Comic Book Sexual Innuendo – Part 31

2013/12/14

Ever experienced one of those moments where a comic book’s title captured the essence of its contents perfectly?

Please don't tell me that that's a fancy way of saying you're a bottom... >_<

Putdown Merry-Go-Round – Part 1

You know shit just got real when superheroes start ragging on each others’ names.

Hey Trina! If you're reading this, this one's for you. ;)

The Lunar Archivist’s Sketchbook – Part 13

2013/12/06

As promised last time, here’s the sketch I managed to procure from the other co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

This Splinter by Kevin Eastman is actually pretty interesting because it was done entirely in ink and marker, with no rough pencil sketches having been done beforehand. Enjoy. 🙂

If There’s Grass on Hyrule Field…?

2013/12/02

The age of consent must be a pain in the ass to figure out in Hyrule.

Hey! Look! Navi just gave us some good advice! :P
